Thoughts on Rushmore
I watched one of my favorites movies tonight: Rushmore. It's directed by one of my favorite living American directors, Wes Anderson. Some of his popular movies have been The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Team Zissou, and the most recent Fantastic Mr. Fox. Rushmore is the story of Max Fischer, an akward but charming dreamer that is extremely driven and obsessed with extra curricular activites and his school Rushmore Prep. Max's obsessions soon shifts to Miss Cross, a 1st grade teacher at the school, and he soon begins spiraling put of control. He befriends Edward Bloom, brilliantly played by Bill Murray, who also becomes entangled by Miss Cross. The movie is truly, above all things, a "coming of age" story, but the most beautiful thing about it is I feel like I come of age every time I watch the film. As I watch Max and the other characters crumble and grow through the movie, I see the cracks and beauty of my own life. In the end I love Rushmore so much because I identify with. Max goes to incredible lengths to be accepted or to get what he wants, and sometimes he goes to far. It's so wonderful to watch all of the characters rip apart as well as grow. If you haven't seen it you should. It's a wonderful dramedy about change and growth, as well as love, creativity, and identity. Check it out!
